Bird’s eye view

Sans clean up, I’ve finished the hedge!!! GO ME! That freaking thing is longer than the house and curved around on both ends… and it was between 8 and 10 feet tall. I tamed it using only a pair of pruners and a hacksaw!

So, in celebration, here is a bird.

Click for a larger image so you can see his eye…

Those fresh cut marks? All me, baby. Me, my tools and my sunburn!

Should I go clean up now, or drag my aching body into a hot shower?

Beautiful shot! Is that one of your mockingbirds?

January 9, 2009

Umm… I don’t know. Is it a mockingbird? I saw it sitting on the hedge, aimed and voila! ;)

January 9, 2009

Yes ma’am - it is!! http://www.panoramio.com/photo/4629636

OH, awesome! That’s a better picture of one… but not too much better!

I’ll just pat myself [and the camera] on the back just a tiny bit! ;)

It is a gorgeous shot! I do have to say that birds will be pretty derned safe landing on those hedges - cats would impale themselves on those spikes sticking up!

Whenever my teenage son and I finish working in the yard, I always kiddingly look at him and say, “Now doesn’t that make you feel good about life?”

So far, he’s never replied yes to that question.

January 9, 2009

Thanks, Theresa! Yep, I made it so that the birds are pretty safe… for now. ;)

“Now doesn’t that make you feel good about life?”

That’s okay, it takes awhile! Now that the thing is finished [for now] I’m feeling pretty good about life. ;)

You suck. Now I absolutely have to get out and trim my trees. Geeeze… I was looking for excuses NOT to do work. ;)

Great picture!

January 10, 2009

 I’m a perspiration inspiration!

That freaking hedge is only part of the job; you know how it is down here; nothing dies! Ack!

January 10, 2009

Wow, great shot! I wish I could get sunburned in January

January 10, 2009

It’s a trade off… there are no fireplaces because there’s no cold weather… no bundling up, no snow, no steam rising off hot stew and making you feel warm again…

;)

You GO Girl! I’ve seen that hedge. That’s some serious trimming.

Dance baby, dance the happy dance of accomplishment. You MORE than deserve it! :woot:

January 10, 2009

That’s right; you have seen that thing! I’ll have to take an ‘after’ picture! :woot:

January 10, 2009

Happy now that you’re done clipping and hacking?

January 10, 2009

Mmmmm…. I was happy when I was done with the hedge… but I’m not done. On to the palms!

January 11, 2009

Love your blog. Glad I found you.

January 11, 2009

Thanks so much, Sharkbytes! :hotflash:

January 12, 2009

I totally missed the “Now doesn’t that make you feel good about life?” comment the first time around. Reminds me of Secondhand Lions when the little boy starts working on the garden with the uncles.

January 12, 2009

I never saw that. :(

January 12, 2009

You simply MUST! That’s all I can say.

Robert Duvall
Michael Caine
Hayley Joel Osment
and a cast of other unusual characters, including Kira Sedgwick.

January 12, 2009

Love Michael Caine!!!

January 14, 2009

I love Duvall. Man might be 78, but he’s a damn good actor and there’s just something about him… Did you know his birthday is two days before my dad’s? Same year, too.

January 15, 2009

I like Duvall. Man can act rings around many of our so called stars…

My favorite Duvall movie -and I know this is odd- is as Julia Robert’s father in Something to Talk About. I love that movie… it’s just a sweet, simple little flick, but he really stands out in it.

Plus there are horses, so I’m there. :)

You are so funny about birthdays. Why is that?

January 16, 2009

Birthdays — cuz our family has always had matching birthdays and stuff. Like I know my friend Patty’s birthday is exactly six months after mine because her’s is on Nov. 18 and mine is May 18. My mom’s is July 18. My dad’s is Jan. 7. My little sis is Feb. 7. My older sis is Dec.`14, and my grandmother was Nov. 14. We had matches and so I always look for matches or “neighbor” birthdays. It’s habit.

And I agree with you about Duvall in Something To Talk About. Yep, yep, yep. And Lonesome Dove? Helloooooooooooooooooo! Awesome blossom.

January 17, 2009

Lonesome Dove was so much better as a book than a flick [way back when I saw it] but again Duvall was a stand out. I need to see it again. NO, I need to read it again. I loaned my copy out and never got it back.

Took me til the 3rd or 4th viewing of STTA before I realized I was watching for the 2nd plotline. Didn’t care about Julia Robert’s problems, I wanted to get to Gena Rowlands, Ann Shropshire and Duvall’s story.

Also a cute role for Kyra before her face elongated and she started eating hay, poor girl.

I see what you mean about birthdays!!
