Born without a shopping gene
The baby’s baptism looms larger every day so I went to Macy’s yesterday to shop for new clothes.
You must understand that clothes shopping for me is an exercise in terror. While other little girls were matching separates, I was astride a horse. When they were grooming Barbie’s hair and collecting accessories for her dream date Ken I was reading a book. Where was I when they were applying their first coats of makeup? Oh, yeah. Castrating calves and mucking the barn.
Since I wasn’t born with fashion sense and didn’t learn the basics early on I’ve pretty much relied on others to dress me. From my mother to my best friend to Youngest spawn, I’ve cheerfully placed those decisions in the hands of people who know better than I the ins and outs of current styles and retail life.
Yesterday was a prime example of what happens when I live an isolated existence with no close friends at hand. Like I said, I hied my butt to Macy’s. First stop was the Ralph Lauren area -because they’re right inside the door. Those retail execution folks know exactly what they’re doing; it’s a hike to get to the cheap stuff - and the treacherous trail leads through exotic flora and fauna like Lauren, Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, DKNY and Michael Kors. I stopped at Lauren, of course. Bought two tops and a pair of slacks so expensive they would easily feed a small African village for a year.
Now I need shoes. Who said women like shopping?!? I’d rather be mucking a barn.

I promise you, if and when you ever get back down here, it’s going to be you, me and my Macy’s card! I suck so hard at this… and though the slacks are beautiful and fit like a dream the one top I got for the baptism makes me look like an old whore. Really. I’m thinking about returning it.
I will try Sears, thanks for the heads up! I just never think of them… D’oh!
OK, I’m gonna ignore the whore comment, because, well, I’m not gonna argue over the internet. ;-)
But yeah….Sears is a great unknown when it comes to shoes and boots. My last few pairs, which are my favorites btw, all came from there. And the pricing is amazing….
And I’ll get down there. Hopefully soon, cause that means I got the job and need to make “my rounds” before I head back north….
Awesome!
I’m still praying… and now that the election is over and the sky didn’t fall, HR will start processing paperwork again.
Can I muck the barn with you. If it weren’t for my mother in law I would have had to take the step of going shopping. Don’t get me wrong. I love to shop…for craft stuff… LOL
See you Sunday and I know you will look beautiful. You always do.
You’re a tomboy like me. [sigh] I think Kaytlin got the gene, so she can help us later on… but for now we’re kinda stuck relying on the kindness of others. And mannequins.
OH, and thank you! I don’t always look good, but you’re sweet to say so anyway.
Looks like I need to ship Pam north to Tammi for a weekend
….ooohh…. look who’s thumbing through the archives…

Oh how I wish I could have gone with you……..I think you know by now - I LOVE THAT STUFF. Especially helping others find just that right outfit to make them not only look but feel beautiful…….
But I am more than positive you made a great choice. Now…regarding the shoes. Try Sears. Really. They have some great options this season….
